California penal code 646.9 talks about stalking and there’s a fairly common definition of stalking that people think of when they hear the word stalking and the legal definition in California isn’t all that different from that. Stalking is a pattern of behavior over time that involves sort of threatening menacing contact kind of annoying type contact. Keeping people under surveillance for example: following them, threats of violence, acts of actual violence, repeated and offense messages maybe 100 texts over the course of the day or week or something like that. That’s what we think of typically when we think of stalking and that’s really what stalking is under California law.
